Despite all the hype about the weather and a potential hurricane, our flight left our home town and arrived in Orlando just as scheduled. Upon landing and having to walk all the way across the MCO airport to the first terminal, we boarded Magical Express for our hotel, Coronado Springs, and arrived shortly after 11:00 am.
Our room wasn’t ready upon check-in, so we grabbed our Disney Dining Plan refill cups from Cafe Rix and headed to the Dig Site pool to wait it out.
Fortunately, we were able to use our Quick Service Disney Dining Plan credits at the pool snack bar, Siestas Cantina, so we ate lunch and waited for the front desk to text us about our room being ready.
The Dig Site pool is huge, and the boys enjoyed the water slide and the playground area.
Our room was finally ready at 3:00 pm, and thankfully, our luggage arrived as soon as we’d walked in. I hadn’t stayed at Coronado Springs in years, so I’d forgotten how beautiful the grounds of the resort were. Unfortunately, the room interiors need a bit of a refresh, as the furniture is worn and the decor outdated.
But our room request to be central to the Pepper Market and a Disney Transportation bus stop was happily granted, and we were on the second floor of Cabanas 8B. Our room was a corner room, so we had the advantage of two windows – one with a view of a smaller pool and one of the lagoon.
Once we showered and changed, we headed to Disney Springs at about 4:090 pm for our 5:15 pm T-Rex reservation. I was excited to finally see the new Disney Springs, as during our last trip, the area was still called Downtown Disney and the refurbishment had not yet been complete. It is gorgeous!
My boys had been wanting to eat at T-Rex for quite some time, so they were excited. The restaurant’s theming and decor is amazing, and there was much to look around and see for the boys. There was a meteor shower every 20 minutes, and we had fun taking pictures of all the different dinosaurs.
Unfortunately, I was not impressed with my meal – pasta marinara with shrimp. The shrimp was fine, but the pasta and sauce were dry. My Key Lime Pie dessert was just okay, but the kids really loved their mac and cheese dinners and “worms in dirt” desserts. I’m glad that we got the chance to eat there, but I don’t think I’d go back again. Especially if not on the dining plan.
After dinner we ended up turning in early since our day had started at 4:00 am and we had a park day planned for the next day. But we were happy to find that you could see the fireworks from Hollywood Studios from one of our room windows.
Have you ever stayed at Coronado Springs or dined at T-Rex? Let me know what you think!
